Young hairdressers have been rewarded for their skills with gift

Hannah-Marie Martin of Weston College in Weston-Super-Mare and Danielle Smith of Reflections Training Academy in Bristol were named joint runners-up of the Habia Young Apprentice of the Year 2010 award and were given Babyliss Pro products as a prize.

The pair came second to Jessica Robinson from WS Training, who was voted top out of 25 finalists for the accolade.

In the competition, participants in the Young Apprenticeship programme - which takes teenagers and allows them to train in a studio setting - had the opportunity to show off their visions and skills in front of judges which included legendary stylist Patrick Cameron.

He said he was "wowed" by the entry standard, adding: "It is fantastic that they have been able to realise they possess such potential in this field through this competition and the Young Apprenticeship programme."

Experts such as the Habia Skills Team - who are part of Habia, a government-appointed body which sets standards for beauty and haircare - also demonstrated different cuts and styles to the audience.
